Hi guys,
This is my first post and I did not want to be this way. I use my MBP with an external display, and a few days ago it just did not came back from sleep. I do the SMC reset, the lights change colours but no signs of life. It happened something similar the other day, but it came back from sleep.
If I didn't have my 2009 MP 5.1 I'd be screwed without a computer.
Any thoughts ????
Thanks Guys.
Leo

ps. I bought the MBP in The US with 3 extra years apple care that ended in august 2019. Yes, I paid 300 bucks and it was well used because the applecare warranty did replace a battery while in Brazil, a screen, a logic board and a few months ago the SSD. The last 3 done 2019 in Portugal.

About the only thing I can think of is possibly trying to disconnect the battery connector inside the computer. Then try various things like booting without the battery connected, etc.

You probably already tried this, but...
What happens if you disconnect the display, then re-connect it?

I use this MBP with an external monitor, closed, and never had any problem, not even the need to reset the SMC. A few days ago I noticed it took a while to wake up after disconnecting from the monitor. The screen was black but the forced touch pad clicked, so I knew the MBP was alive and in a few seconds later the screen came back from sleep. I stopped using it for a couple of days and from then on it never came back. I decided to fully charge the battery for a few hours and try the SMC reset. After the battery was fully charged (green), I did the SMC reset and strangely, the magsafe light didn't even changed colours, it kept green. I started to worry and did not have time to troubleshoot, so waited a couple of days with the Mac kept inside my bag. The next morning I connected the magsafe to the MBP and the light was amber. I then went for the SMC reset. The lights did change colours, according to the procedure indicating the SMC was reset, but nothing...the MBP is still dead. I don't want to open the computer myself now. I'll take to the closed apple certified place and wait for them to tell me what's going on.
To tell you the truth I'm really disapointed with this MBP. I had a MBP 2009, 2011, 2012 and never had any problems. All 13" without the powerful graphics. The engineering behind them seem well done, but I don't believe they were made for the long haul.
I want to thank you all for help so far.
Cheers.
Leo
