Hi all

Just treated myself to a new imac (24" & looks great!)

I am having trouble migrating the contents of my old imac across, I get almost to the end & get an error message telling me that the old one is no longer responding. I have tried this twice now & get the same message??

Anyone have any ideas??

Thanks

ps It's only really my music I need to transfer across

You could just copy the iTunes Music folder at Users/YOU/Music via Target Disk Mode.

Target Disk Mode - start the old Mac while pressing T on the keyboard and connect the two Macs via Firewire.

Spinnerlys,

after you transfer the data from one computer to the other, where do you find the data? i just transfered data from my old iboook to my new macbook, but i cant seem to find where it transfered to.

thnks.

sorry to hijack, but how do i swop my bookmarks over from PC firefox to Mac Safari?

In Firefox go to either file -> export bookmarks or go to bookmarks -> manage bookmarks, then export them that way. Either way, you have to export your bookmarks which will save them as a .html file on your computer.

Transfer that to your Mac, then in Safari go to file -> import bookmarks, navigate to the file and you're good to go.

Do you mean by "transfer" copying via Finder or the Migration Assistant?

Finder: where you dragged it to.

Migration Assistant: Users/You/.... the respective folders.

You could do a Spotlight search for the files/folders and see where they are.

All sorted now, it reset my user name to John Smith from johnsmith (That's not my real name!), so when I was adding the password it wouldn't accept it.......all done now!
