Help with my old g4!

Basically we got this handed down from a friend who upgraded to a macbook and all it does is boot up to the little apple logo but never goes any further (as you can probably tell by now, im not used to macs!). So i figure it needs a OS reinstall, I have a DVD copy of leopard. Problem is this, the g4 only has a cd drive, i dont have a external dvd drive apart from a usb one, which I have been told is unable to boot from on the g4, so im basically wondering is it possible to install Leopard from my non wireless network, i only have a Windows XP pc on the network with the mac but it has a dvd drive etc and how would I go about it?
Any help is much appreciated!

the short answer is no. there are ways to do a network install from another os x machine but not from a windows one.
