Help with new iMac and Mavericks

I'm about to get my new iMac and I want to know about installing Mavericks.

1. What is the different btw a clean install and ulgrade?
2. Do I have to uograde first and use recovery (after restart), or is there shortcut?

the easiest way is to get the install dmg and put it on an 8gb flash drive after you download but before installing.

There are quite a few youtube videos showing how to do it with mountain lion it works the same for mavericks.
