Help with OSX image

I have a 36 gig image that I want to install onto fresh iMac's.

I tried hooking up the imacs to my laptop and rebooting them while holding T, so that my laptop could use them as slaves. Then, I deleted all the files from the slave drive. However, I couldn't erase bootX (in library/core), because it was locked.

Then, I used the disk utility to "restore" the slave drive to the 36 gig image. It just got done copying, and it is hanging on the "login window starting" screen.

What am I doing wrong?
