My neighbor has a pc an dis paying me to fix it. The problem is that no applications will recognize the internet connection but the network manager recognizes teh connection. and says connected (100 mbps WOW!) ive trie turning off teh firewall but taht doesn't work. what could it be
 
yes irt ahs an ip...i believe it says sometign about DHCP assigned ip. what do u mean by release/renew

i restarted the comp if that helps

Go to run and type cmd

At the command prompt, type ipconfig /release

Then, after the machine releases, ipconfig /renew

No promises, but a good first step.
 
If it's connected through a wireless router, then try unplugging the power from the router and modem for a minute and then plugging them back in. And after you do that, restart the PC and see if it works.

there is no reason to abbreviate/slash up your words here, no limit on text space or number of characters either.

makes it much easier to diagnose and reply to problems when we can fully understand what is being posted.
