So I backed up all my photos on an external hard drive from my 2015 MBP. Bought the M1, and when I try to view the photos with the hard drive plugged in, I get a "The operation couldn’t be completed. (PHPhotosErrorDomain error 1000.)"

Ive tried repair, tried everything ive read online. Does anyone know ? Im running latest Mac OS, ive got 5 years of photos that I may have lost.

Firstly, while you noted you have the latest software on the M1 Mac, what OS version were you running on the 2015 MBP?

Secondly, is the photo library still on the 2015 MBP and working? If so, could you do an iCloud sync, where you upload the photos to iCloud, and they are then downloaded onto the M1 Mac?

How did you "back up" the photos to the hard drive?
What method did you use?

Did you just drag the "Photos Library" icon to the drive?
Or... did you do something else?

Do you still have the 2015 MBP?
Is it still bootable/runnable?
If you boot it, does Photos still work with your old library?

Answer ALL of these questions, please.
