iPod touch Help with photos/videos (newbie/first post)

First off, I would like to say what a great site this is and I appreciate everyone's insight.

I apologize in advance for this simple question...hehe.

I just purchased an iPod Touch (love it BTW).

Do you have to have a new version of iPhoto to put any pics on it? I can't seem to put any pics at all on my touch. When I select a folder from the Photo pane, I see my pics listed but they are not highlighted so I can select them.

Video: I have a few music videos that I've shot and I would love to put them on my touch so i could show bands while I 'm out. What format do they have to be in? How do I put them on my touch?

Im not sure about iphoto but i just selected a photo folder and set it to always sync with it. All my photos were jpg but im sure it handles most. "Handbrake" can rip dvd's to ipod format.

But for converting your videos im not sure i only just got my mac, google ipod converter and you should find something
