Help with Premiere Pro CS3!

Hey guys,

I am new to CS3 on Mac ( I have used it in school on windows machines ) and when I am trying to import some footage (.avi files) it says there is a "unsupported compression in the file". Is there any way that I can change this and get it to import? Thanks for the patience and help guys.
