Help with preserving baseband and jailbreak to ios 5.0.1

Hello,

I am a complete novice for jailbreaking.. I have iphone 4 with ios 4.3.3 bb 4.10.01 jailbroken.
I want to upgrade now to ios 5.0.1 and preserve my bb for unlock using gevey sim. I did some research before but there are so many posts I am confused.
I did not even upgraded my itunes since 10.3 version. (should i upgrade to 10.5??
Can some one give me step by step guide into how to preserve bb , retore to 5.0.1 and then do untethered jailbreak on ios 5.0.1?
If you can provide some link or video tutorial will be great...

I have a Macbook pro (Intel).

Any help will be highly appreciated..

No problem. Creating a custom firmware preserves your current baseband.

No, keep iTunes at 10.5.2 for now.

Don't forget to run redsnow or corona over your pwnage tool jb to get all the latest updates.

Since you obviously don't pay attention , redsnow has the capability now to preserve bb. Use what you prefer.
