Hi

I have a 2015 Macbook Air a1466, the macbook started to flicker and shut down now and then so I though about trying a fresh install. After backing up and wiping the partition it shut down. Now everytime it boots up the folder with the question mark will come on flash a couple then that flicker happens and it shuts down. Even with the battery being fully charged it'll refuse to come back on then I have to do the shift control and power but SMB I think it's called to come back on
I have tried restoring with the control and R button the little world loads on screen I put in network settings then the flicker happens and it turns off.

Any suggestions or help would be appreciated. This is out of warranty and I couldn't afford to take it in to apple.

Likely some sort of hardware issue based on the fact that it was having problems before you attempted to install a fresh version of the operating system.

My suggestion is for you to take it to an independent Apple authorized service center -- one who will examine your system and provide you with a repair estimate at no cost. At that point, it will be your decision on how to proceed.

Hi, it is hardware based but at the point of going into apple it would not come on when he tried he said it'll just be a logikboard replacement and it'll cost you £470 for the repair. Obviously I couldn't fork that out and especially not for a machine 2-3 years old. I got home and it came on so would you say it was still the logikboard board

For anyone to properly answer that, they would probably need five years of experience as an Apple repair technician, physical access to your system and probably some proprietary diagnostic tools.

Since your problem wasn't a one-time anomaly, it is likely that the hardware problem is intermittent, will probably return at some point, and may increase in frequency. Again, those are just simply guesses but my hunch is that the problem isn't going to go away.

It's up to you to decide whether or not you want to take the machine elsewhere for a second opinion (and repair estimate) or to keep using it until it is permanently dead. I suggest you make frequent backups of your data.

Good luck.
