Hey folks, long time looker first time poster. I am having a huge issue with trying to transfer ringtones to my iphone 3gs. I used this website http://www.free-ringtones.cc/ to download a few sms tones and make some as well. They are all in mp4 format or whatever and whenever I try and add them to itunes, the ringtone folder shows but they files dont. I tried drag and drop and file/add file/etc. and it still doesnt work. I have had this issue before and just gave up but I'm getting bored and frustrated with the same sms tones and wanted something different. I've done some searches on here and the internet and havent found a solution that has worked yet.

Any help?

I downloaded 1 ringtone from the website you provided, and it downloaded as an .mp3, a ringtone has to be in a .m4r format. To do this;

1. Drag the downloaded ringtone into iTunes
2. Locate it, then Control + Click on the track (Right Click for Windows)
3. Select "Create AAC Version" (Also located in the Advance tab)
4. Drag the .mp4 version to your desktop
5. Delete both .mp3 and .mp4 versions from iTunes (to trash)
6. From the Desktop, rename the .mp4 track to .m4r
7. Drag the track back to iTunes, now it should show up in the Ringtones folder.

(simply renaming an .mp3 track to .m4r will not work)
