help with sim card questions!

going from pc to mac so i'm new to the mac world. i have a 4s on vzn.
however, my brother gave me his old A1203 2g phone WITHOUT a sim card. i want to use it as an ipod for music but can't activate it on itunes w/o a sim card. should i buy a sim card on amazon or a used one on line? AND if i do buy a sim card on amazon, will a 3g card do the trick?

thanks for your reply. i went to a verizon store & brought a sim card to use & it works beautifully.
