Sorry for the really dumb question but I can not figure out how to make this stop.

I downloaded Skype, and when I go to install it, it works but then the 'Skype Hard drive icon' won't go away. I will eject it and then when I turn my computer back on or try to open skype it will come back and make me reinstall it.

Someone point me in the correct direction.

Ejecting the disk image should work...are you draggin the image to the trash? If so, the trash bin should turn into an eject icon...otherwise, control click (or right click) on the image and click eject and wait for the image to disappear...also trash the .dmg file and empty the trash...(you dragged the Skype app to the App folder, right?)
If that isn't working, I'm at a bit of a loss as to why the disk image won't eject properly...Perhaps a restart is in order

It sounds like you either:

a) Didn't copy the Skype application to your hard drive
b) Copied it, but then put the wrong copy in your Dock

Open the image, and copy the app to your Applications folder. Now eject the image. Once you've done that, drag it from your Applications folder to the Dock.
