help with time capsule

I have a son going to college with his mac and his room will be all wireless plus one place for an ethernet cable can he still back up to my time capsule so far away?

I'm not sure what you mean. What are the distances involved, here? If it's 100 feet or less then there's no reason why this wouldn't work.

my question can he sync with my time capsule while not on the network

I could be wrong but i dont think thats possible, he has to be within range of your time capsules network in order to sync to it.
