I have a MacBook (late-2007 model) that I wanted to upgrade the storage capacity. I have been using Time Machine with an HP MediaSmart Server to backup this Mac. I installed the new drive and reinstalled OSX (Leopard). I also installed the HP software (needed to get the Mac to recognize the backup drive).

I thought Time Machine was going to be the easiest way to recover my old drive's info, but when I try to use Migration Assistant to recover the Time Machine backup, I get an Input/Output Error on my iPhoto library (different photos each time).

Is there a step I'm missing here? Something else I can try to restore with Time Machine?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Just in case anyone else comes across this... I ended up putting the old drive back in, borrowing an external HD, and using carbon copy to create a disk image. Restoring from that was relatively painless.

I have now disabled Time Machine and will be using Carbon Copy for backups.
