So I used the basic sudo command to completely empty my trash of some locked files. However, now when I click to delete something, it asks if I want to delete it, because it will be lost permanently. Now instead of placing deleted items in the trash, it trashes them completely (they don't go to the bin, they just get deleted). How do I change this setting back so that things go to the trashbin?

blah, shouldve been autodeleting

Update/bump: I logged out and back in, and now files do go to the trash and don;t get deleted, but the trash icon doesn't show that anything is in it, even when things are in it...

I guess the question is, how do I get back to my default trash preferences and fix all this?

i thought it was fixed...however, it's doing this thing again where my trash wont show that there are files in it, and i can open it and see that there are. the option to empty trash will be grayed out, too. Is there a way I can permanently resolve this?
