I just bought my wife a Iphone 3Gs used. I inserted her 3G sim card and everything works but the internet. My question is this. Her current plan is unlimited data for non smartphones through ATT for $10/month. If I call to get this activated through ATT they will have to turn it on to the 2G plan for $25/month for Iphone?

Is there a way to use her current sim and plan?

You will not be offered the Smartphone unlimited unless you put a brand new ( keyword is new ) simcard in an iphone original ( some refer to it as the "2g") and select unlimited plan via iTunes!

She currently has a Samsung Impression and it has a 3G sim with unlimited data plan. My question is there a way I can just use that sim and data plan without needing to go through ATT?

I believe I have fixed it..... I changed the APN settings and it getting on the internet now after the change. I think this does it?
