Help with upgrading hard drive.

I know someone has probably already asked this but is there a step by step guide on how to back up my data. I actually am upgrading from a 60 to a 120 HD (macbook) and would prefer to do a fresh install on the new hard drive but keep my files. Any links to other pages would be great too. thanks

i already know how to physically install the hard drive just need tips on data management.

This is a tough question to answer without knowing exactly what you would like to retain. Only files, or applications that don't come with OS X as well?

Can't you just copy the Macintosh HD to a backup drive?

I'm also planning to get a new 120gb hdd to replace my 60gb on my Macbook. Is there a program to back up my hdd? I would like to backup my music, photo and some programs.
