Help with using an Xbox controller to play games

I am trying to use an Xbox controller to play gamepad-supported games.

My Xbox One controller pairs, connects, and controls games perfectly.

However, while my Xbox Series X controller pairs and connects, it does nothing in the same exact games.

Why would this be?
