Help with verizon prepaid data plans

here is what I want to do. Go to my ipad add a prepaid verizon account and use it for a month or two. Then not use it again for a few months without being charged, then add it again when i want to use the service. Is this possible without having to get a new sim card. I was told stopping payment will cause the sim card to burn out? How do i do this? Thanks

I think the sim will be okay if it's not left alone for more than 3 or 5 months. I am not sure how to turn off auto pay tho. Des anyone know.
