Along with the announcement of the latest Apple Watch software, watchOS 6, Apple today confirmed which previous-generation Apple Watch models will be compatible with the 2019 software update.

Essentially, the only Apple Watch not compatible with watchOS 6 is the original "Series 0" device from 2015. Every Apple Watch that will support watchOS 6 can be seen below:
[*]Apple Watch Series 1
[*]Apple Watch Series 2
[*]Apple Watch Series 3
[*]Apple Watch Series 4 Notably, watchOS 6 will also require an iPhone 6s or later with iOS 13 or later. In terms of Apple Watch compatibility, these are the same models that watchOS 5 supports.

Like other updates announced today, watchOS 6 is available to Apple Developer Program members starting today, and all of the new features will launch to the public this fall. Apple does not offer watchOS as a public beta.

I assume my series 2 will be so slow after this update that it will be unusable, but hoping Apple will prove me wrong.

I didn’t expect the Series 1/2 to cut quite yet, but I suspect WatchOs 6 is the last year/version for those two models.

Really waiting for reactions from "Gold" series 1 watch owners..
“They’ll be upgradable for years time come”. Oh dear, I’m expecting even more tears. I remember seeing a kid working in an Apple store with a gold Apple Watch. I felt so sorry for him at the time knowing that he’s been absolutely ripped off and sucked in. Bless.

Doesn’t matter as I’ll be moving from series 2 to series 5 later this year.

3 years is enough for me to feel I got my monies worth.

Nice to see they're keeping the same compatibility. The new features they introduced looked very nice. They are obviously going towards an independent ability for the watch for those that might want that.

You could also upgrade every year for ~$100 a year and end up paying the same price over the 3 years

My 1st Gen stops at 4.3.2, even that runs sluggish. It wouldn't be able to handle OS5, it certainly wouldn't handle OS6.
AW4 is super fast now, I ONLY hope OS6 doesn't slow the watch down.

I like to buy the Hermes editions and those have terrible resell values.
Everything except aluminum does which is really weird. I’ll still only buy a SS either way. Looking forward to Series 5, my S0 is slooooow.

literally upgraded from a first-gen (series 0?) to a brand new one about four weeks ago and holy hell the new apple watch is great. really back on board with this device.

*Series 0 - the first generation of Apple Watch is lovingly referred to as Series 0.[**]

The first generation (0) gold Editions can be broken down here:

Series 1 and 2 are a single generation; and then 3 and 4, separately and respectively.

**This makes trying to find an old Apple Watch on ebay absolutely insane.

I had to replace my S0 a year or two ago because the battery only lasted like 5 hours.

I'm looking to downgrade to the aluminum version, which is annoying because the link bracelet looks bad with it. Maybe I'll wait for SS5 (sigh).
