So I am currently with Verizon and have a Moto Q (blows pretty hard). Verizon coverage is pretty good. I want to cancel my Verizon contract, pay the EFT and get the new iPhone on Friday. I was thinking though, what if I cancel with Verizon and the 3G coverage in my area isn't as good as AT&Ts coverage map suggests? I'd be stuck with a phone that I can't use a feature on. I was thinking, is it possible to get an iPhone with a new number and after a week if the coverage is good, THEN port my number over from Verizon. Also, does the 30 day return policy work for the iPhone as well?

This is precisely what you want to do in order to not lose your current phone number when Verizon closes your account.

Yes, it does with the iPhone 3G (which is different the the original iPhone).
