Its rechargeable battery is good for four hours of video playback, but V-Tec doesn't indicate how long it lasts while listening to music or viewing pictures.

  And people complain about the iPod's battery life!

Oh and I hope it's compatible with Panther and Jaguar as well as Mac OSX v.10.0.1  :p

But I think the iPod will do OK unless they've declared 'war' on it!

without competetion Apple wouldn't have to innovate as much, so just be glad apple sets the bar for everyone else follow. the reverse would be with no competetion the bar could lower which means less features and same the price.

Competition and an outright copy are slightly different things, in that the latter is illegal under patent law.

Of course, I'm not a big fan of IP in general, so I do think things like this push companies to develop beter products, but that's going a little far for my taste.

Hey, I like the iPod as much as the next guy, but this thing can do something the iPod can't: play movies. Apple doesn't have a patent on buttons arranged in a circle.

The video ipod is coming just relax

What is the f**** fascination with video, are people so desperate to get porn on the go.....

I personally don't want to watch a movie on a 2" screen it's just plain stupid..

Apple will produce a ipod video but when its ready, they are watching all of this wanna be "ipod killers" scramble to do something the ipod can't do and then when people are do disappointed with them they will introduce it and take the market like they did with audio...

I'm not saying a video iPod is a good idea, just that the people making fun of this device for being some kind of an iPod ripoff are a little out of line. It's like saying a camcorder is a ripoff of an audio tape recorder.

If little Timmy finds an iPod under the tree this Christmas, he will think his mommy and daddy love him for ever and ever.

If he finds they left him the V-Tec MMV Player instead, he wil think they don't value his sorry little ass because mommy really wanted a girl and daddy wanted a new motorbike anyways.

And therein lies the difference between iPods and all the competitors.

Here endeth the lesson.

If little Tommy wants a portable video player and gets an iPod, he'll be disappointed too. Only time will tell whether there are more Timmys or Tommys in the world.

Sorry it was not my intension to insult anyone but the video ipod thing is just been done to death.... ;)

Any way apple will do it when the timing is right and it will be way better than any of the other can do...patients is a virtue...

I used to do package design for Vtec all their stuff is the lowest and cheapest quality possible...so this device I don't think is any different.

rant over

Actually, if I'm reading this correctly, according to the diagram on page 6 it would appear that they do. At least, they do as it pretains to a hierarchical UI layout.

Whether this thing is or isn't the same thing as an iPod--the video does act to differentiate it--isn't as much the point as that it has EXACTLY the same layout as the iPod, which may well be infringing on Apple's IP.

It's not the same thing as a camcorder ripping off a tape deck, it's more like a Samsung video camera that has exactly the same shape and button layout, albeit with different colors, as a Sony still camera. Now, the layout may or may not be protectable under IP law, but I don't remember any of the various and sundry iPod competitors ripping Apple's button and wheel layout off that precicely--the rest at least make an effort to do something different.

I just don't get what is going through these companies' minds. They try to compete with the ipod which is good in my opinion, but they end trying to beat it with a product which turns out to be the complete opposite of what the ipod is all about. MINIMALIST!

It's not about being minimalist per se, but rather simplicity and ease of use. Just my two pennies ;) :p
