Apple today introduced the second-generation AirPods Pro with H2 chip, which means the first-generation AirPods Pro have been discontinued and have not been kept as a lower-cost option.

The AirPods Pro are being sold alongside the AirPods 3 and the AirPods Max, with the AirPods 2 also in the mix as the cheapest AirPods. Pricing for the AirPods lineup is below:
  • AirPods 2 - $129
  • AirPods 3 - $169
  • AirPods 3 w/ MagSafe - $179
  • AirPods Pro 2 - $249
  • AirPods Max - $549
The AirPods Pro 2 continue to be priced at $249, which was the price point of the original AirPods Pro earbuds. The AirPods Pro 2 will be able to be preordered on September 9, and will launch on September 23.

Got a FREE pair of AirPods when we bought our daughter her M1 MBP. I honestly wanted to so "No" because of the limited battery life, e-waste, etc. but FREE... Daughter likes her $9 Panasonic wired phones more (sound better) so no go there. Wife uses them occasionally, but mostly they just lie around unused. We try not to waste resources on disposable battery products, but gave in because FREE... Sound-wise they do not compete with $9 Panasonics. Since the Ps also have silicon tips they block most high-decibel noise. So about $240 extra and huge impact on e-waste for 1) Transparency mode, and 2) "No wire" (which no one in our family cares about since I guess we are part of the tiny minority that don't mind wires). YMMV.

And I would somehow manage to lose each and every one of them.
Son - when did you start posting on MacRumors?

Black Friday 2021 the AirPods Pro were $169. This year probably will not see any decrease in price but the model 3 might be very cheap.

I can never use wired headphones again. The same goes for console controllers, keyboards, and mouses.

I don't understand how AirPods 2 + MagSafe case is still more expensive than AirPods 3 + MagSafe case.

If MagSafe only adds $10 to the cost of the AirPods 3, why does it add $70 to the cost of the AirPods 2?
Huh? They never made Airpods 2 with magsafe case. Also don't mix magsafe and wireless charging, they're not the same thing

If the Airpdods Pro 2 really have improved noise cancelling most people would have no reason at all to get the Max. Especially for twice the cost.

The point stands: AirPods 2 + wireless charging is somehow still more expensive than AirPods 3 + wireless charging.

The non pro AirPods are far superior when moving. Not having the rubber in your ear keeps the sound consistent.

AirPods 2 at $129 is great. Should be able to get this at a lower price point during the holiday season.

That's a strange thing to complain about... If you're really concerned about e-waste, sure, just say no. Otherwise, I dunno, give them to someone for Christmas? Sell them? Offer them up to whoever could use them? Or are you trying to imply that they sound so bad that you couldn't even give them away in good conscience?
