Tap to Pay on iPhone continues to expand to additional countries and platforms around the world, with payments company Deluxe being the latest to adopt it.

Small businesses and merchants can offer Tap to Pay on iPhone through Deluxe's app dlxPAY.

Launched in 2022, Tap to Pay on iPhone allows businesses to accept contactless payments on an iPhone, with no additional point-of-sale hardware like a Square Terminal required. The feature allows customers to pay by simply tapping their iPhone or Apple Watch, contactless credit card or debit card, or other contactless payment option on the merchant's iPhone. Payment is securely completed using the same NFC technology behind Apple Pay.

Tap to Pay on iPhone is now available in the following countries:

  • Australia
  • Austria
  • Brazil
  • Canada
  • Chile
  • Czechia
  • France
  • Germany
  • Ireland
  • Italy
  • Japan
  • The Netherlands
  • New Zealand
  • Romania
  • Sweden
  • Taiwan
  • United Arab Emirates
  • Ukraine
  • United Kingdom
  • United States

Here are some major platforms that support Tap to Pay on iPhone:

  • Square
  • Stripe
  • Clover

I wish walmart would get onboard (yes, I know "shop somewhere else," but I'm in a small rural town and unfortunately can't). It's one of the few places left where I have to dig my card out of my wallet. I've downsized my wallet because of apple pay, and the new one is very skinny / a PITA to work with.

Introducing 'Tap to Pay on iPad'. Yanking out your massive tablet has never been easier. As long as you've got big pockets, there's no reason to worry. You are going to love it. ;) /s

We shop at farmers markets quite a bit and I've never seen anyone use this. I see a lot of the those Square terminals/pads, though.

Conversely, our small town farmer's market has vendors that almost all support it. I think square's new hardware supports tap top pay (or whatever POS system they decided to go with).

Oranges, peppers, strawberries, and green beans? No apples?

Also, $16.122? Are they seriously able to charge that extra .2 cents? :p

Maybe it's in a place like some European counties where they switch the meaning of ',' and '.' in money usage, and it's actually $16,122 (16 thousand, 122 dollars, and not 16 dollars, 12 and 2/10 cents). I hope not. That's one big grocery bill!

Thing is, you kind of also need to have chip-and-pin support. This by itself isn’t all that useful. The tap on my cards are constantly breaking, just like magnetic strips used to. Plus, you can only tap up to a certain amount.

I've used it a few times. It works, but just taking a check doesn't cost me anything.
Taking a paper check? Do you have any idea how many of those either bounce or are fake? OK if you only atake a few dozen you could be lucky and they are all good. But if you accept enough of them, over time statistics will catch up with you.

If I take a check I say "When it clears the bank, you get the goods." It could take up to 90 days. Even if the bank allows you to spend the deposit, they can still claw back the money if the check turns out to be bad.

The last big check I got was a cashier's check from a non-existent bank. So many scammers out there. So my "you get the goods AFTER the check clears" policy worked.

It’s crazy but Avis/Budget rent-o-car at SFO still is stuck at Williams CA level gas station card scanning only. Yes, SFO! My card stays at home and it’s in my wallet app. It’s no Apple Pay here in 2025. Just a gripe.

Good catch. And the text is in Spanish, so it may be pesos (use the same dollar sign). Still, doesn’t explain the three decimal points…
The file name says the picture is in Chile. But the Chilean Peso is no longer divided into centavos, and Chile is not one of the countries that use a decimal as a number separator.

You can reverse image search this photo and find that it's been reused multiple times for different languages, countries, and currencies. Maybe we're seeing 3 decimals because this time the image was edited to show a conversion rate.

My barber uses Tap to Pay on iPhone, via the Square app, and while it’s just nothing different than tapping a regular pinpad, there’s something interesting about just holding my watch near his phone, and I’ve just paid. The idea that our phones are just mobile POS terminals is quite unique.

Most pos terminals are more or less just android phones in a giant plastic case

I have never seen this be used anywhere in Germany.

It is because cash is used more for payment than card in stores in Germany.

The only place that you will see it in Germany are the Apple stores there.

Nah this changed with covid. I literally haven't used cash in years. Even Döner places are slowly picking it up now. The bakery in my parents 300 people village has been taking card since 2021

Wow. Pretty soon they will be getting dial-up service.

… sorry couldn’t resist. I traveled to Germany for work a few times and some things were just… very quaint.

I’ve only ever seen a girl-scout mom outside a grocery store use her phone with a square attachment on it to accept payments.
