Updated to iPadOS 15 upon release, went on vacation after. All downloaded videos on iPad would only play sound and no video while on vacation. Deleted and reinstalled them, videos working on iPad now, still not showing up on tv. Tv auto updated to tv os 15.

Videos I’ve encoded with handbrake x265 don’t play on my Apple TV anymore. Both are updated to the newest software so I’m not sure which or both is the issue.

Thesw are movies/shows that have been airplaying fine since 2017, is anybody else experiencing this? Its very frustrating. What played perfectly before is now “this format is not supported on this tv”. Anybody know if this is a bug or if Apple stripped functionality? My Mac on latest OS has same issue now.

My smart tv can airplay any normal video, literally the only thing I buy an Apple TV for is HEVC Airplay.

Nobody having any issues?

By chance I recently bought an New 4K A10x apple Tv for $100 from BB, it came today with TV OS 14.4 installed. All videos airplay on it just fine. This confirms to me either Apple has stripped functionality from TV OS 15 or it has a serious bug.

Moving the old 4K Apple TV to my room and gonna move the new one with broken software up to the rarely used entertainment room. Will Not be updating from 14.4 software. Kinda pissed I have to give up the speedier A12 chip.

I use Home Sharing and can not report any issues with HEVC playback.
PS I run every one of them via Subler after HB encode.
There was some HEVC track tagging issue before that Subler fixed but I would assume Handbrake also takes care of it by now.

I finally find what it was. On TVOS 15 you must (or at least I) cannot airplay a video if I have to click "replace what is being watched?" it never works. It has to be on the home screen for the video to airplay. Very annoying but at least it doesn't destroy my home theatre.

Not sure if this fits here:

I have my first apple tv since few days and managed it to work with the sound over the HomePod mini!

Now its working also with my tv-receiver, so the apple HomePod is the SoundSource for it...

When i try to airplay from my macbook or my phone it doesn't work, airplay doesn't start....

If i try directly from youtube or Fotos from the airplay-button it works!

Could anyone help?

ps:
the only way to fix this is when i switch the sound to the normal tv speakers, but this is exactly what i don't want!
(also the new apple tv beta doesn't fix this)
