Hey I got a Cruzer 4GB USB key, but no memory available??

it has 975 MB free, with no files in it, and its 4GB capacity.. info says 4GB capacity but only 975 MB free... ?¿
 
I just formatted it as a MS-FAT or w/e and it only has 3.88 GB avail now.. (which is what id normally expect)... guess thats good enough
