Yes, you. The dork with the "race tuned" Civic or VW GTI.

Why, exactly, would you put a muffler that makes more effing noise on?

All of you that do this to your cars and go rodding down the street making an assload of noise should be hung.

</rant>

I got flamed at the garage last year, asking to get a silencer put on my car that would actually silence the exhaust noise a little.

apparently 'silencers' are meant to make things louder

But they aren't and that is exactly why they feel the need to overcompensate.

I live alongside a major city road.

Traffic noise I have no issue with. Trucks - fine. I lived in DC for four years.

These coffee can muffler pieces of crap are a menace.

well the ones that sound like a blender make me wonder why even waste money on those....basically all it does is make noise.

but it actually makes a performance difference on some engines

Our next-door neighbor has quite the throaty sound coming from his car. He also like to let his car warm up a bit before taking off...apparently because it's so cold here in the Bay Area. It rattles the heck out of our door knocker, but I'm too lazy to remove it.

Shouldn't you leave that to the Tow-Away truck?

Trust me, if you remove the door, the noise will be even worse.

Anyway, agreed about the annoyance factor of these things. I carry a bag of small potatoes with me at all times to use to stuff the pipes.

Actually, it would be better. It might be a bit cooler in the house though. (Thankfully our broken furnace got fixed yesterday so we'll be able to compensate a bit and contribute to global warming in the process.)

I think I'll remove my knockers instead.

Same goes for the turds with the window-shaking boom-boom s*** speakers.

Loud race cars sound good, but these underpowered fart-mobiles sound like crap.

iGary, I agree with you 100%. If there was a simple law in this country making it illegal to alter a vehicle from its factory form, we wouldn't have to listen to this.

What's funny is, when they try to race they just draw more cops with their loud noise. Even if they have cop radar, they can't hear the increasing beeps just because of the muffler noise.

Ricer Description

-Ziz-zagging in and out of traffic with a suspension that is so close to being shot.
-Body kit that is halfway hanging on with superglue.
-Sub system that is located in a trunk where any touching metal vibrates outrageously
-Puts 2 grand in their car only to gain 50 hp when they could've got a nicer car
-Drives a civic, an older type if they're "old skool".
-Fails to keep up with my stock 2000 Kia
-Self-conscious all the time, like everyone is looking at them every second they drive. Like people really remember their car 5 seconds after they buzz by.

Get a life ricers.

One last rant for the road, eh? :D

Daily iGary rant? Check.

And do these guys pay MORE money for noisier mufflers, or are they cheaper, and therefore louder as well? I'm just asking because if they actually pay more money for crappier mufflers that don't muffle sound, I'm going to get the idiot stamp and stamp some foreheads.

And lets not get started on the amount of bass from some of these cars. There's so much bass that it makes the sound worse, but hey, it must be cool, right? I mean, the bass vibrations are so strong that my bladder actually feels like relaxing and just......letting go™.

**sports bike owner pretends to hang head in shame**

.....

**grins, fires up bike, revs repeatedly to 12000rpm and pulls wheelies through the traffic to annoy the locals**

:D

they will pay for the loud bass playing. They will undoubtly lose their hearing before they are 50 and their cars are rattling so much it has to be loosening up the nuts and bolts.

Here in Charleston you can get a ticket for that loud bass.

Hardly, you may gain 10hp at the top end (if you're EXTREMELY lucky) but you'll be losing power everywhere else.

If you're just replacing the silencer, chances are you won't gain anything. There will be bottlenecks elsewhere in the exhaust system, so to get any gains you'll need to fit a whole system, tailored specifically to your car.
