Hi guys, i have a 6/7 month old MPB which i have been having some issues with recently. The machine wont boot up at all. It comes up with the apple logo at the start, and then the spinning disc thing. Stays like that for 5 mins or so, and then restarts.
I took it to one of the techs at my uni, and he tried a bunch of stuff.. Hardware test, Safe Boot, choosing the boot disc, using a leopard boot DVD etc. I personally tried resetting the PRAM. (all that did was speed up the process of restarting) Nothing happened. The tech seems to think that it might well be an issue with the hardware. As mentioned the DVD option didnt make the problem go away so it would seem not to be the OS.
The only thing that i was able to do, was to use his Mac Pro and put my MPB into firewire mode and copy my documents, downloads, music, and other bits over. Last time i checked that was about 4pm, and had 3 hours to go. He said i can collect it tomorrow morning.
Tomorrow afternoon, if nothing has come to mind- or happened, im going to take it back to my local, and see what a "supposed genius" can do with it.
At the moment though, im just looking for other solutions, i dont really want downtime with this machine. Its more important than i allow for at the moment!
I've already rung up applecare, and they cant do anything until i have the serial number. The box is at home in London, with the serial number not actually on the box (i had to take it off, so i could get a postal rebate on my ipod chromatic nano, i cant find my copy of the serial number which is here with me at Leicester.) Unfortunately i couldnt get to the battery bay neither, because my machine was under lock and key (his, the techs office)
Big ole darn all round i think!
sooooo.. any ideas??
Cheers
