HI-8 to DVD

I tried to do a search, but haven't come up with anything really solid. A friend of mine I work with has made a movie with a hi-8 video camera. What program should I use to burn the movie to dvd to be able to play in a dvd player? will final cut be able to do this? I don't have much experience with movie programs.

the new iDVD would be perfect for your needs, it can capture, then burn right to a DVD

is it the brand new idvd? I bought my powerbook last jan, so it isn't the brand new model, but still has idvd.

Make sure that the camera has DV out. If it doesn't, newer Digital8 Cameras can playback hi8 and you can use that.

Hi8 is analog and it won't work the same as Digital8. If this is a Hi8 camera, it won't have a FireWire connection.

What you'll need is another DV camcorder (miniDV or Digital8) to act as your analog to digital pass-through. With that, you should be able to import the Hi8 footage using Final Cut Pro or iMovie.
