Hi,

I go to 'settings' and then to icloud. In the phone's icloud, it shows the icloud update I recently purchased. I went from the basic icloud storage capacity of 100GB, to the 2TB storage capacity.

The update purchase was done through my iPhone four days ago. I just took a look at icloud, in the computer, within the system preferences, and it also shows that there is a storage capacity left of 1.83TB.

That is good because my laptop had only around 14GB of storage left. The problem I have, arised just now as I wanted to upgrade the OS. The computer tells me it needs some 30GB extra of storage in the laptop in order to install the new operating system. I never thought an operating system needed so much space. However, I wondered if some of the remaining space of the 1.83TB in the cloud, could be used to download the remaining part of the OS.

My reasoning behind this: is that by getting more storage, more space is being freed up. In that regard, I supposed I could also be able to download more into the computer. Is that right?

Thank you,

Kind regards

You’ll likely need to manually move some files from your computer to iCloud Drive.

Your computer needs the space for OS update not iCloud so you still need to clear some space. You can also temporarily move some files to pen drive or hard drive then transfer back.

In simplified terms, the upgrade downloads the entire OS in a single file, and the replaces the old image file with the new one during a reboot.

Therefore you must have enough space for both images locally on your drive at the same time.

Hi,

Thank you for your messages : )!!!

I had never filled up the complete capacity of any of the computers
I have used, all of them Mac. However, with this computer I have
saved more information into it and it has almost filled up.

I have an Apple iPhone and my employer gave me an android cel.
phone to be used for work. So, my iPhone has almost stayed home
for the past years. About two months ago, I told my boss that the
drive of the Android phone was full and that google had started to
offer the cloud service. Once the cloud from google was bought, was
the Android phone able to, for example: take more pictures and video,
download apps., open or download documents, purchase and
download an audiobook we needed, and even upgrade software or
outdated apps., etc. Basically, any new information we needed to
have downloaded into the Android phone, was possible due to the
purchased storage in the cloud that had been bought.

I thought it would be the same with Apple. I had been paying for a
very long time 100GB. of storage. However, when I wanted to
protect the information of two other computers from family members,
and download the OS update, I decided to get the next storage option,
that was 2TB. To my surprise, it seems not possible.

Thank you again, very kind regards,

igmolinav : )!!!

P.S.: This may be agravating the problem, and I don't know how to
put a solution to it:
