Can my MacBook (2.4 ghz intel core 2 duo) 13 inch aluminum reliably play 96khz/24 bit files?
Is the internal audio device good enough?

I would like to listen hi-res files using my macbook+built-in analog audio output+headphones (Audio Technica).

Thank you

I believe the files will play back fine but that doesn't matter. The quality bottleneck will be the internal audio device, by far (noisy, low resolution, cheap cheap cheap parts). If you want to do anything resembling quality listening you have two options: the digital out to a receiver/external D/A or an external sound interface. You could go anywhere from a sub $200 M-Audio type thing to a +$1000 Apogee Mini-DAC.
