Hey all,
I've been waiting to get an MBA for a while, but held out for the new MBP's because I expected the form factor to change. Now that they're out, I guess it'll be a while until they update them again. A few things still keep me away from the MBP, namely the heat and the noise, besides, of course, the extra weight.
Searching the forum, I found a lot of topics where MBA users say yes, the MBA will run this and that. That's not what I'll be asking. I want to know if I can use the MBA as my primary machine, and I'd be shelling the extra bucks for more RAM.
1) Does it ever run noisy? I mean ever. When?
2) Does it much longer to export video from Final Cut, compared to i5 processors? How much longer? Here, for instance, the guy is comparing a 13" MBP with SSD with an 11" MBA, and it takes 100% more time (which is still acceptable).
3) I know Flash is hard on any computer, but I don't plan on using HTML5 for now. Under stress conditions, like 15 Youtube videos open in 720p quality, is there noise or hiccups in performance? Do you have GPU acceleration enabled in your browser?
4) Is there any kind of HD stress with the SSD's? If I'm downloading multiple (big) files or torrents, does it perform better than any HDD? Do you keep an external plugged in and download your stuff directly to that drive?
5) When you're using Skype or iChat, do you feel any kind of overload?
6) Final question, unrelated to performance. Is the higher resolution more straining to the eye than the lower res/reflective combo in the MBP? I do a lot of writing and reading and I won't be getting any kindles or iPads if I go with the MBA now, so this is very important to me.
Thanks!!
