Hidden Files in Downloads folder

I have a large file called: .QT-028a-c6376c1e-bfffec5c-00 in my Downloads Folder. It was hidden, but I unhid folders because I am doing some cleanup. What is this file and is it safe to remove?

Open a terminal window, and type "file ~/Downloads/.QT" and hit the tab key - it should auto-complete the name for you. If not, type it out manually. Then hit enter, and if it can, the utility will tell you what kind of file it is. You can then open it in the appropriate application and see what's in it.

No matter what it is, it's likely to be safe to remove, unless you have some weird application that stores critical content in hidden files in your Downloads directory.

Looks like a temp file that didn't get cleaned up. I'd chuck it. I always have hidden files turned on and see that type of thing all the time, especially in my Download folder.

Thanks a lot. I removed it. All is well, nothing is broken. Saved some disk space.
