Sometimes when I download various files to external drives (instead of my internal PowerBook drive) I can't find where they go but I know that they went to a specific drive.

So then I did a sweep with OmniDiskSweeper it shows that some of my drives are numbered 1,2,3 etc. - so sometimes the files go to "Stuff 2" or "Stuff 3" but there is only one physical partition called Stuff.

Code:
lees-powerbook-g4-15:/volumes Lee$ ls
Acomdata Docs Panthro 2 Stuff Stuff 3
C$ Panthro Storage Stuff 1 Tigra
Clone Panthro 1 Storage 1 Stuff 2

Anyone what's going on here?

I've had this occaisionally. It seems to happen with external devices which get mounted and dismounted a few times. My guess is that if a drive doesn't dismount properly, next time you mount it it adds an an incremental number to it in the Volumes folder. If you reboot it clears them all out and you're back to normal.
