How can I hide the genre column when using the list/browse view in the new iTunes 8? You could always disable the genre in older iTunes versions but i can not find the option in the preferences any more. I hate this stupid genre view.

Just right-click on the column heading and check or uncheck any item you want.

Just about to post this. I can't find the option anywhere in iTunes.

It's driving me nuts!;)

EDIT: Also, no way to hide the little 'arrow' links to the iTunes Music Store?! Lame.

This is very annoying. It's like they forgot to put the checkbox setting back in when they rearranged everything. That or they are making a push for selling more and more music. Needs to be an option to not have the arrows.

Hide Genre on Mac (iTunes 8)

Although I still use iTunes 6.0.4 (I don't play movies, etc), here's how one may hide the "Browser" upper column:

1. Open Terminal
2. Enter this command and then hit Enter:

defaults write com.apple.itunes show-genre-when-browsing -bool FALSE

3. Close and reopen iTunes

Obviously, you can reverse these changes with the following command:

defaults write com.apple.itunes show-genre-when-browsing -bool TRUE

Hide Genre on Mac (iTunes 8)

Here's how to disable the "links" (to iTunes store):

Go to Terminal and type:

defaults write com.apple.iTunes show-store-arrow-links -bool FALSE

That will hide the links. To kill 'em forever, type:

defaults delete com.apple.iTunes show-store-arrow-links

I hope this helps. For those intellectuals, and wanting to make a great change to American society, see:
