iCloud+ subscribers who use Hide My Email can do so directly from the Mail app after installing the iOS 15.2, iPadOS 15.2, and macOS Monterey 12.1 betas that came out today.

The feature update is outlined in Apple's release notes for the beta, and it should make Hide My Email much more convenient to use on Apple devices. For those unfamiliar with Hide My Email, it is an iOS 15 and macOS Monterey feature available to anyone with a paid iCloud+ plan (priced starting at $0.99 per month).

Hide My Email allows users to create unique, random email addresses that forward to a personal inbox. It's similar to a password manager for email addresses, with users able to generate random email addresses for each website or login.

All the emails sent to the random Apple-created email address are forwarded to you so you can respond if needed, but the person on the receiving end does not see your real email address. And if you start getting spam emails from someone, you can just delete the email address and put a stop to it.

Hide My Email was previously available from the iCloud Settings on Apple devices, but now it can also be accessed directly in the Mail app. In the Mail app when composing an email, click on the "From" field to see the option to generate a "Hide My Email" email address. Selecting this feature will generate a random email address, effectively concealing your true email address.

Shame that hide my email does not always work in Safari, most sites are ok, some though don't
have autofill on by default or something similar and it does not work.
Is there a way to create one elsewhere?
Cheers

Yeah I have the same issue with password suggestion by Apple actually. Often it suggests me password but then I do not get the pop up to actually save it to my keychain in the next step and so I just made an account with a password I don’t know

Does Hide My Email and Private Relay work only with iCloud email id or all email ids (Gmail, Outlook, Work email) added to the Mail app. Does it also work with Gmail and Outlook apps or you have to add your Gmail id to the Mail app for it work?

I can envision Apple selling subscription based MacOS functionality moving forward. How about fixing bluetooth, USB-c and screensavers in Monterey as well?

About. Time.
Thanks, Apple!

I've used my own domains for years with a catch-all rule that forwards emails to one inbox.

Not perfect, but it works.

For example, when I signed up (using not my actual domain) for "DetroitNews.com" I used "detroitnews@JodeoRumors.net" for my email. Their confirmation email came to my inbox.

Once I started getting all sorts of spam, etc. to that address, I logged into my webhost and blocked it as undeliverable.

Granted, for some sites I had to change the email there first (e.g. BigOnlineStore2021@JodeoRumors.net"), then block the original address in hopes to stop spam.

Even so, replies were always from my main inbox email - but, that was rare in most of these cases anyway.

I have my mail hosted now in icloud. I wish they had the catchall feature

Exactly correct. Should have been this way from the start. Glad to see Apple iterate.

‘’all the new privacy features are scattered across various options. Apple should consolidate.

Works with others as well from my limited experience so far.

it Is kinda convoluted, setting up at the moment This will make more sense. As others have said, it doesn’t always work. I’ve got 2 dozen or so setup, it’s quite nice after the fact though. Usable with gmail, hotmail, and such for me.

I really like the concept of hide my email although the implementation is lacking. I have put one hide me email addresses in my contact name. The reason being I saw how many different addresses has provided and I do not need a ton more of them. I wish Mail would let you set one hide my email addresses as just an auto fill thing.

Yup. Same problem.

It ends up taking me 5-10X as much time to create my accounts, because I have to find out how to recover the lost password.

It's been like that since... 3-4 years at least? On a few different devices. Quite a shame. It's as if they never use this feature at Apple.

Yes. For me safari seldom prompted me Hide My Mail, it happened only once!

Have you configured out on what conditions it would prompt for Hide My Email? Is it related to the Website setting in safari?

Hide my email is one of the good things launched this year. Don't have to give out actual email id!

yes. and i consider it is a sequel or a supplement to the failed SIWA, Sign in With Apple. most of the websites or apps do not support SIWA, or often adopt tricks (e.g. email validation, etc.) to make the anonymous feature of SIWA fail.

Hide my Email even allows more flexibilities than SIWA. in SIWA, if you deactivate a SIWA for a particular website, and try to sign up again at the same website, the system would not provide a different relay email addr, and have to use the same SIWA for sign up. While Hide My Email allows the users to sign up with relay email addr as many time as they like.

Short answer, nope.

It might be code-related like some do not allow copy and paste, same for hide my email maybe.

hello, i like your trick and tried to put one of the relay email addr as one of the email addrs in my contact name. but this relay addr would not be on the list of selection when we click "from" while composing a email in the mail app. how do you use this trick?

the reason for more than one relay emails is to allow you flexibilities to deactivate one relay email addr without affecting other web acct, cos you could register web acct with different relay email addrs.
