macOS Hide the Finder icon

One of the pet hates of a friend of mine's is that he HATES the finder icon. He has actually (truthfully) admitted that he would buy a Mac if the finder icon could be hidden. Right click > hide does nothing. Can anybody tell me a way of hiding it?

Right click > Hide is not meant to hide the icon but any windows open under that app.

And if the look of the Finder icon is the ONLY thing preventing your friend from buying a Mac, they have issues. Get over it. Or hide the Dock so they don't normally see it.

It's all about the Finder in OS X's Aqua UI. It's an always running app. It should always be there as a useful app. But anyway..

Of course, he can just change it to another icon if it's the default icon he doesn't like.

Or use a 3rd party app to get "rid" of it.

Agreed that if that's the only thing holding him back, he's got problems.

Is TransparentDock universal yet? It definitely has the capability to remove the finder icon from the Dock, but I don't think it works on the new Intel-based machines yet.
