I have a Mac with 2 partitions of the internal HD. One is the NTFS partition for Windows and the other is the partition for OS X. Thing is, I don't like the NTFS partition showing up as 'Untitled' on my desktop. Is there anyway to hide it? I know its possible in Finder, but how about the desktop?

Since OS X can't write to NTFS, its a moot point to even have it there.

Put another way I want to stop the automounting of that disk at startup.

Not sure about preventing the volume from mounting, but I found that renaming the Bootcamp volume label in Windows and putting a period in front of the label name hides the volume from showing up on the desktop. It's still present in the Finder sidebar, however.

Example Volume Name (Without the Quotes): ".WinXP"

You should then be able to drag it out of the sidebar if you like. There's a technique involving Terminal to prevent a partition from mounting, but it's not for the faint of heart. :)
