Hiding menu bars on external displays?

Yes, I'm aware of the "Displays have separate spaces" option in System Preferences. The problem is unless this is checked, apps going full screen make all the other monitors turn black, and also can't use split view. So I'd like to have the separate spaces option enabled.

Seems to be no joy about this for the past 2 years, is there an app (paid even?) that does this?
