Hiding the keyboard question.

Hello all, just a quick question regarding the pop up keyboard.

When responding to forum posts and I want to cut a chunk out of a quote the keyboard pops up and obscures the post making it difficult to get the cut in the right place. Can the keyboard be prevented from popping up automatically ? If posable how do you do it manually?
