Hiding user name in the taskbar

Using german localisations (with usually longer names than in English) of some programs, pretty fast fill the taskbar on the 12" screen of my iBook. So beginning from left to right the symbols I have sitting there (e.g. the symbol for changing the keyboard layout) become covered.
As I am the only user of this Mac, showing the name of the logged in user is useless.

How can I remove the logged in user from the taskbar?

How can I remove the logged in user from the taskbar?

Or just unclick Enable fast user switching altogether to remove the logged in user.

I was so dumb not clicking on the lock.
Now it showed the extra options.
