Is it just my Mac? The fan goes crazy when I play a stream from HuLu HD. Boxee was the same. Anyone here with the same issue?

I have a hard time thinking this question is a serious one...

But to answer it...you are playing HD video...of course the computer is going to get stressed. Did you expect your computer to just sit there and play the video flawlessly without using the CPU at all?

The Flash player sucks on the Mac, going into CPU cycle overload for anything.

Even a simple game of Pong.

How is it that so many people are happy with a Mac Mini as a home media server when my more powerful MacBook (4gb RAM) has a hard time doing the work? Safari 4 is said to improve Flash performance, anyone notice?

Because my mac mini isnt sitting in my lap. Its in a AV rack 15 feet across the room. Just sayin

That's because people don't usually use the mac mini as a flash video streamer. My cousins have one in their home theater and they use it to just play music around the house and stream home movies off the hard drive to their tv. They aren't playing flash based videos off Hulu or anything, especially HD ones.

I just sampled a portion of Obama's address to the nation on Hulu using their HD 480P stream.

My CPU averaged around 50% usage (100% reported by safari, but thats only 1 core so 50% idle usage by system) and no frames were dropped at all.

Unibody Macbook 2.0Ghz 2Gb ram 9400M.

Yup, the new Unibodies tend to handle flash a lot better than the last gen. It might have to do with the better graphics being able to take the load off of the CPU.
