High CPU usage while in screensaver?

Is it me or the screensaver uses a ridiculous amount of CPU power? I realised this after leaving my laptop after a few minutes, came back and realised that the fan was spinning up to full blast and the CPU temperature at 82C!

Are screensavers that power hungry?

Some screen savers do use lots of CPU. Which screensaver is it?

It's just one of the default ones that came with OS X. Shell to be exact.
