I got the high end 15 inch MacBook Pro at a retail store today and have been playing around with it.

So far its great, display is stunning...barely and glare and its very cool and quite even when playing games. The cooling system on this thing is crazy. The new Apple SSDs are blazing fast as well, mine boots up to login screen in about 5-10 seconds!

Quite a massive change from my Hard Drive based 2010 MBP!

Ill have a more in-depth video review tomorrow morning, but here are some benchmarks for now!

GeekBench: http://browser.primatelabs.com/geekbench2/737802

Disk Test :

Diablo Tests:
First image is Diablo running on 24" Cinema @ 1920x1200 with all settings high except shadows Medium and AA on...was getting high 40s low 50s

Next is on the Retina Display with same maxed out settings except for no AA (the display is so fine its not required!)...was getting high 20's low 30's.

Not bad for this chip driving such high res displays on max....my previous MBP couldn't get over 20 fps with medium settings!

More coming soon!

so the fps drops if u use the retina instead of an external display??

D3 is running 2880x1800 effective, so the performance penalty will be noticeable compared to a lower resolution external display.

If you run games at 1440x900 on the other hand, performance would be better.

Thanks so much for posting! You are so lucky! It looks amazing... I will most likely be upgrading my 2007 MBP. I ran that disk speed test the other day and it came out to 30 MB/s. Haha.

WOW those disk benchmarks are great! I have an Other World Computing 256GB SSD custom installing in my 2011 MacBook Pro right now and your numbers blow mine away by well more than double... almost triple the speed!

I can't wait for mine to get here next week!!!

Can you give us some details on how quiet the fan is when running GeekBench?

no the only issue I have come across is some weird screen tearing when scrolling on an external display, it happens in videos as well. Ill have a video review up soon!

Need some screenshots of Diablo 3 running at 1440x900. Let's see em! :)

My speed results

So I just picked up the 2.6Ghz Retina and I'm super stoked about it ;)

I really don't see the point to be honest.. It just looks so amazing on 2880x1800, and it's super smooth. I'm no pro gamer, but it's smooth. I'm on Inferno now.. And I've never had a wish to play 1440x900 the whole time.

I run everything max, except shadows. The shadows are on low (smooth) mode. I've never tried cranking them up, but I think that starts to affect the performance. I find too much shadow annoying, haha.

Once you play D3 at 2880x1800, you'll find 1440x900 revolting.. Lmao

Complete base model.
