Hi,
I am running Lion for quite a long time now. The system is quite smooth and responsive. But I am noticing considerably higher load averages than SL.

With just Safari and Mail open (both idle), the load is > 1. The CPU % is ~ 1-2 % with no disk activity and plenty of free memory (~ 600 MB).

When the system is completely idle with only the system services running in the background, the load is around 0.5.

I have never seen it fall below 0.4, while in SL, it used to go as low as 0.01.

Is this a bug?

0.01? Yeah right. Processes like Dock, Finder and various System Processes already take up more each, even when everything is idle.

Really? Is this an issue? 0.1 to 0.4? Ring the alarms!!!

I think you should watch Activity Monitor more closely. Is there anyway you could graft your Mac to yourself and watch it for 16 hours a day... you know, just in case?

Isn't 0.1 to 0.4 a 4X increase? While gaming (CoD, Borderlands, etc.) it almost crosses 3. This never happened with SL, no matter what I did with it.

AFAIK it should not cross 2, for a system with 2 processors/cores. If it goes beyond 2, it indicates that the system is low on resources.

I believe I have a Lion-worthy computer:

2.4 GHz C2D
8 GB RAM
nVidia GeForce 9400 M
250 GB HDD (>30% free space)

Fixed it. The culprit was a ghost network volume which was trying to mount every now and then. The load averages are fine now (better than SL).

How's this?
