High Pitch Frequency after SMS, hardware? or software? genius bar?

I have a 16GB iPhone 3G S, after sms messages and most locking, I get a high pitch sound for a few seconds.

I'm aware that other people have this issue. Is this hardware or software? Should I take it to the genius bar for replacement or wait for a software update?
