I have this high pitch sound that started intermittent this morning .
Now it's getting more frequent and last longer.
It just stopped when I moved the power saver setting of the video from never to an hour.
I'm not sure where it's coming from yet.
Any suggestion
Thanks
Francois

Looks like the problem is gone after moving the display power saver setting.
It's been an hour free of noise so far
For reference my video card is the NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT

Does it sound anything like the high pitched noise in this video (ignore the tornado fan noise)

I think the noise is supposed to be either power transistors or the inductors on the system board but I cant say for sure if its normal or not. My laptop does it when its in battery mode and my 8800GT makes a bit of this noise on the opening screen in the game of Crysis - which I hear is a common thing on the 8800GT and that game.

Anyway if it is similar to that noise, call apple and ask because maybe its not normal.

very hard to tell if it's the same frequency. But it's always the same one .
I tried to boot from an other drive and the sounds starts with burst of one second during the boot process.
I'll try to record it next time and get it up my frequency meter.

I narrowed it down
It's the 250 western digital that came stock in the 8 core that is making this high pitch sound.
Clowning it as I type.
The sound is getting worse and the drive is starting to click on top of it
Time for apple RMA:eek:

my mac pro (with CTO 1tb hitachi drives) began making this sound after about five days! It also had graphical issues causing it to reboot itself! I sent it back and will order another when the refund is applied.
