High Quality DVD Ripping

I just got my first mac and I'm still kinda newbie to Mac OS X apps.

In windows, I used to rip dvd's using a combination of DVD Rebuilder + Cinema Craft Encoder (CCE) to backup dvd's into single layer media. The result was way better then other solutions such as DVD Shrink, Nero, etc...

Does anyone know how to get similar results with mac os apps?

Handbrake will help you get the stuff off the DVD. Or, do a search for MactheRipper...

And for the re-encoding process? Any ideas?

DVD2oneX2 will compress a VIDEO_TS folder to DVD+R/DVD-R size.

Handbrake encodes while MacTheRipper simply rips the raw video files. There are other options but these are most commonly used.
